evening update

unfortunately my superduper bedside tv/ phone/ internet screen thingamebob has not been playing ball for most of the day. this has meant that i have been unable to comment on the minutiae of life on trauma 2. so the entries on cleaning/ visiting/ today's meals/ fellow residents/ the nurse's new puppy will have to wait for another day or hopefully another hospital stay. (or indeed never!)
i will report that matthew has managed to break the visiting hour rules every day, by visiting at lunch time and overstaying in the evening. this evening his boss kept him late at work wanting to talk about the royal cornwall show, so he only arrived at 8pm, when visiting officially ended.
i can also report that the food today was typical hospital food. they try and source some local ingredients, so my potatoes have been enhanced by trewithen farm butter pats and i had a langdale farm yoghurt, which i have never heard of and sounds more yorkshire than cornish, but the menu said cornish and i implicitly trust the menu.
please spare a thought for the bloke on the ward who has been waiting since 8am for an op and it is now 10.15 - i think it was the lack of cigarettes that has been annoying him more, but it must be frustrating.
anyway my elbow is still improving, so i'm all set for release tomorrow. in the meantime i'm showered and in my pj's waiting for my evening meds and then it'll be time to say goodnight.

oven cleaning update

i thought i would let you know that yesterday i finally got around to cleaning the oven. it only took two weeks to build up the motivation, with a little help from matthew who left the can of oven cleaner in a prominent place!

it was not the worst oven i have ever had to clean, that honour belongs to the oven that came with my house in essex - though technically it was the grill pan that was the worst. on first inspection it looked as if there was a thick layer of grease on top of a layer of tin foil. closer inspection revealed that there were actually at least three layers of tin foil, each with a layer of fat and grease inbetween. delightful! actually that house was one of the messiest ones that i have inherited, it makes me wonder why i spend so much time cleaning up my house when i move.
today is one of my 'fit days' as opposed to 'sick days', so i am well enough to work... after the weekend i will be working monday evening and tuesday and wednesday before having two days holiday to go to the isles of scilly for the gig rowing. funnily enough i am looking forward to a few days away.

the cupboard under the sink

it's not that i'm bored but...
i decided it was time to clean the oven...

below is an inventory of the cupboard under the sink in the kitchen:
persil washing powder (7.5kg box)
fabric conditioner (5l)
flash floor cleaner
dishwasher tablets (3boxes - 153)
window cleaner (x2)
baby bio
pledge
oxywhite powder
bleach
dylon whitener
cream cleaner (x2)
fairy liquid (x2)
astonish
finish rinse aid
neutradol carpet cleaner
silver polish
clothes stain remover (x3)
silk and delicate wash liquid
sticky stuff remover
water filter cartridges (x2)
compost crock filter (x2)
nik wax waterproofing
chamois leather
all purpose cleaner
1001 carpet cleaner
antibac spray
disinfectant
bleach spray
kitchen cleaner (x3)
shoe protector spray
dishwasher powder
2x sponge scourer
stain removal block
barkeepers friend
butane gas
super glue
lint roller and spare roll
dusters (x3)
microfibre cloth (x3)
multipurpose cloths (x24)
pan scourer (x2)
dishclothes (x2)

lots of stuff, but no oven cleaner.
i blame this excess of cleaning products on the amalgamation of two households last may, just before we got married. we did manage to sort and sell unwanted furniture, and clothes, though i still have boxes of books and ornaments in the garage. we have now eaten the duplicate food stocks (though for some reason we seemed to have had completely separate tastes in herbs and spices - lots of jars!!).
the mega amounts of washing powder/ conditioner and dishwasher tablets were due to 'deals' at matthew's work. though i did work out that we now have enough dishwasher tablets to last us almost a year - assuming a wash every other day and allowing for holidays...
i hasten to add that we do clean - it's just i prefer not to use too many chemicals. however i have now gone and bought some mega oven cleaner - now waiting to be re-motivated to use it!

otherwise have been feeling a bit weary today - probably because i didn't sleep too well last night.

cleaning

sideroom 2 has been on the receiving end of some high level cleaning this morning.
the cleaner arrived and the room was swept and wiped to an inch of it's life, even the bed was raised and all the bars and levers given a wipe.
soon after she left another lady, a supervisor i think, came and inspected the room, even getting onto her hands + knees to see under the bed. all was going well until she went into my ensuite. she came out tutting and told me that she was getting the cleaner back, and whilst she was waiting, she took the bin out of the frame and inspected the underside of the frame!! eventually she got impatient and went to fetch the cleaner, and the 2 of them disappeared into the toilet, something was pointed out and after a short discussion they both left.
a few mins later the supervisor reappeared with another bloke and they both went into the ensuite, before leaving.
a few mins later a chap turns up with a hoover and apologises but he needs to get into the ensuite to hoover the air-vent!
as he leaves thank him and tell him that i'm sure the rest of my stay has been improved by his hoovering. he laughed and told e that they had finished early and were now being found 'silly little jobs to do'.
suffice to say the supervisor has been back and sideroom2 is now fit for habitation again!!
when matthew reads this he will probably comment that our house should be so lucky to get this degree of treatment!
